Gandalf represents Jesus Christ – defeats the Balrog – overcomes death and hell

“Fear not; I am the first and the last:  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”  Revelation 1:17-18

“I am the first and the last and everything in between. I am more powerful than the scary monster under the bed or outside the window or in your scariest dreams. There are none who can stand against me. I defeated that awful monster death and hell – remember when Gandalf defeated the Balrog on the Bridge of Kazad Doom and then threw down the carcass from the tower and smote his ruin forever after receiving power from on high? Remember how Gandalf saves them, every time, when all seems lost? It was I and the Holy Spirit who inspired JRR Tolkien to write that tale about the travelers and their quest to destroy the ring, crossing the bridge one at a time into the path of faith – that story is about me and how I help men and women escape from the allure of temptation – the  wicked power of the ring – and how to destroy it in its very source, and I save them all when all seems lost. All may therefore trust in me and my saving gospel for I am mighty to save. I have done it before and I shall continue to save mankind because I am Jesus Christ the risen Son of the Most High and I now save all who follow me with the saving power of the Elohim.”
